Clothing Essentials for an Ayahuasca Retreat

When attending an Ayahuasca retreat, comfort is key. Here’s a list of essential clothing items to bring with you:

  • If you can, wear exclusively natural-fiber clothes (cotton, linen, bamboo, etc.). Synthetic fibers (nylon, polyester, acrylic, rayon, spandex, etc.) lower your vibration and block energy flow.
  • Light, Loose-Fitting Clothing: Bring comfortable clothes for ceremonies, preferably in light colors or white. Loose-fitting clothing helps you relax and allows for better airflow during warm tropical evenings.
  • Comfortable Day Wear: Costa Rica’s climate can be warm and humid, so pack breathable T-shirts, tank tops, loose pants, or shorts for daytime activities.
  • Warm Layers: It can get chilly in the evenings (rarely), especially during ceremonies. You can just pack a light sweater or jacket for warmth.
  • Sleepwear: Comfortable, non-restrictive clothes will help you rest well.
  • Rain Jacket or Poncho: October to November may have some rain, so be prepared with a lightweight rain jacket or poncho.
  • Swimwear: Don’t miss the opportunity to swim in the pools or the Caribbean Sea. Bring a swimsuit.
  • Socks: Bring lightweight socks for the evening ceremonies.

“Materials from nature, like cotton and linen, still carry the life force of the plants they came from, whereas synthetic fibers lack this vital energy…Natural fibers support a higher vibrational state because they allow energy to flow freely, unlike synthetics, which create energetic resistance”. – Dr. Richard Gerber’s “Vibrational Medicine

Footwear to Bring
  • Comfortable Shoes: A good pair of sneakers or hiking shoes is essential for nature walks and exploring Costa Rica’s beautiful landscapes.
  • Flip-flops or Sandals: Easy to slip on and off for comfort around the retreat center.
  • Walk Barefoot: We encourage walking barefoot as much as possible in safe areas (not in the jungle). Walking barefoot, or “earthing,” has been shown to reduce stress, improve sleep, and promote overall well-being by reconnecting with the Earth’s natural energy.

“Emerging evidence shows that connecting to the Earth’s natural energy can diminish chronic pain, fatigue, and other ailments, leading to significant improvements in health and well-being”. – Earthing: Health Implications of Reconnecting the Human Body to the Earth’s Surface Electrons. Journal of Environmental and Public Health.

Personal Items
  • Towel and Lightweight Blanket: These can add extra comfort during ceremonies or meditation sessions (Optional. If you come to Inner Flight, we will provide them).
  • Yoga Mat: If you enjoy yoga or meditation, a yoga mat can provide extra comfort, especially during integration practices (Optional. If you come to Inner Flight, we will provide them).
  • Small Backpack or Bag: A small bag will be handy for day trips and carrying essentials around the retreat center.
  • Reusable Water Bottle: Staying hydrated is crucial, especially in Costa Rica’s warm climate.
  • Journal and Pen: A journal is necessary for recording insights, reflections, and emotions during the retreat.
Toiletries and Hygiene Items

When choosing toiletries, opt for natural, unscented options to respect the sacred space during ceremonies:

    • Deodorant: Use a natural, unscented deodorant to avoid strong fragrances.
    • Sunscreen: Only natural, reef-safe sunscreen to protect your skin during noon beach time.
    • Bug Repellent: Natural insect repellent is a must, especially for evenings when mosquitoes are most active.
Health and Comfort Essentials
  • Personal First Aid Kit: Basic supplies like band-aids
  • Eye Mask and Earplugs: Useful for ensuring a restful sleep, especially if sharing accommodations.
Optional but Meaningful Items
  • Crystals or Personal Sacred Items: Items like crystals or a personal talisman can be placed on the altar or kept close for comfort and intention.
  • Small Pillow: An extra pillow can add comfort during ceremonies or meditation sessions (Optional. If you come to Inner Flight, we will provide it).
  • Books or Reading Material: If you like to read during downtime, bring a light and uplifting book.
  • Art supplies: Painting, sketching, or coloring books are very therapeutic
Important Documents
  • Passport and a Copy of Passport: It’s always good to keep a copy separate from your original passport.
  • Travel Insurance Information: Be sure to have your insurance details handy.
  • Flight Itinerary and Booking Confirmations: Keep these easily accessible for a smooth arrival and departure.
  • Emergency Contact Information: Include both your emergency contact and retreat contact details.
Things Not to Bring
  • Perfumes, Colognes, or Strongly Scented Products: These can interfere with the experience of others during ceremonies.
  • Recreational Drugs or Alcohol: These substances are strictly prohibited, as they conflict with the healing intention of the retreat.
Preparing for Your Ayahuasca Retreat

In the weeks leading up to your retreat, it’s important to follow the Ayahuasca Diet and avoid certain foods and substances. This includes avoiding any prescribed pills & medication, caffeine, alcohol, pork, processed foods, dairy, fermented food and heavy spices. A simple, plant-based diet will best prepare your body and mind for the transformative experience of Ayahuasca.

We can’t wait to welcome you to Costa Rica and witness the transformation that lies ahead!
